India’s data transmission capacity is poised for a massive boost, expected to quadruple with the activation of new submarine cables slated for 2025, according to TRAI Chairman Anil Kumar Lahoti. Speaking at the Digicom Summit, a prominent telecom industry event, Lahoti emphasized India’s pivotal role in the global submarine cable network. The country currently hosts around 17 international subsea cables, anchored at 17 strategically located landing stations, reinforcing its position as a vital hub in global connectivity.
The new cables will strengthen India’s links to key global markets, driving faster, more reliable internet services and unlocking vast potential for digital transformation. This development is expected to not only enhance the country’s data-handling capacity but also attract investments in data centers, cloud services, and related infrastructure.
